More Coaching Announcements.

The Casey-South Melbourne Cricket Club is pleased to announce the signing of two more top class cricketers to our coaching panel for season 2020/21.

The first of these is former Sri-Lankan Test player Thilan Samaraweera.

Thilan Samaraweera

Thilan will be a specialist batting consultant. Returning to the club in this capacity, once again bringing his experience from 81 tests, scoring over 5000 test runs with 14 centuries. With him having also spent time as a batting coach for Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh and New Zealand to name a few, this is the sort of cricketing knowledge and expertise that will be invaluable to a batting group that is looking to take their collective games to another level.

Secondly we are pleased to have Bathiya Perera joining the club as the Full-Time batting coach.

Bathiya Perera

Bathiya brings his vast experience from a long career in Sri-Lankan first class cricket and List A cricket that sees him regarded as ,”one of the best Sri-Lankans to never play test cricket”. Having played and coached for a number of years in the area (three premierships with Upper Beaconsfield Cricket Club) he will be a great addition to the coaching group.

Head coach Brian Keogh had this to say about the signings:

On Thilan Samaraweera :

” I couldn’t be happier to have Sammy return to our club. His playing and coaching record speaks for itself and he is a quality person of great character.”

On Bathiya Perera :

“Will and I are really looking forward to working with Bath, we have had two long conversations and , again, seem like minded in our approaches. His playing and coaching record speaks for itself.”

“We are fortunate to have two such highly credentialed coaches and importantly, quality guys, at our club.”

Now that we have assembled a coaching line-up bursting with test and first class experience we trust that the players will make good use of the knowledge that is at their disposal to take their games to another level. Then we can take the club back into a position to play finals cricket in all grades.
