Our Coaching Team

Head Coach

Will Carr

It is a great pleasure to have Will Carr continue as Head Coach for the next few seasons.

Whilst he was the Head Coach/Premiership Coach of his beloved Berwick Cricket Club, Will took them to Premiership glory and he is looking to take our group to those same heights.

Will, of course, brings with him a mountain of experience from a lifetime of cricket that includes making it into the Victorian Shield Team before injury’s cruelled his chances to continue. His commitment to the club during the off-season shows that he will be leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of success for the club.

Specialist Assistants

Damien Flemming

The Casey-South Melbourne Cricket Club is thrilled and excited to have the great Damien Fleming signed on as High Performance Consultant for this season

Damien Fleming played 108 matches for Australia 1994-2001. Under the captaincy of Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting during an incredibly successful period in Australian cricket. He famously took a hat trick on debut against Pakistan.

Damien’s looping outswing delivered from a smooth, high action perfectly complemented the bowling of Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie. He became even more devastating after cutting his run-up as a result of on-going injury, and would have had another hat-trick if Shane Warne had not dropped a straightforward slip catch in Adelaide during the 1999-00 summer.

Injuries finally took their toll after 10 years at the top, and in 2003 Fleming retired to take up a coaching role at the Australian Cricket Academy in Adelaide. Since then “Flem” has been a much loved commentator with Channel 10’s Big Bash coverage and most recently with the Seven Network. He is also the host of the Bowlogogy podcast and author of the book Bowlogogy.

Brian Keogh

Brian has stepped back from the position of “Head Coach” after three years due to work commitments. He will be staying involved in an “Assistant” role as much as his time allows.

It is fantastic to have someone of the calibre of Brian want to be a part of the club. Having been a player when the club was still located at Albert Park, it is fair to say that Brian truly is one of “The Bloods”.

We are thrilled to have him remaining involved with the club, and we thank him for his commitment and efforts that went into the past three seasons.

Thilan Samaraweera

Thilan will be a specialist batting consultant. Returning to the club in this capacity, once again bringing his experience from 81 tests, scoring over 5000 test runs with 14 centuries.

With him having also spent time as a batting coach for Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh and New Zealand to name a few, this is the sort of cricketing knowledge and expertise that will be invaluable to a batting group that is looking to take their collective games to another level.

Bathiya Perera

We are pleased to have Bathiya joining the club as our Full-Time batting coach.

Bathiya brings his vast experience from a long career in Sri-Lankan first class cricket and List A cricket that sees him regarded as ,”one of the best Sri-Lankans to never play test cricket”.

Having played and coached for a number of years in the area (three premierships with Upper Beaconsfield Cricket Club) he will be a great addition to the coaching group.

Nathan Pilon

Nathan will continue again this season in the same part-time specialist roll that he held last season.

He is looking to be available for more session than last year as he looks to help the clubs stock of wicket keepers improve on their skills.

Matthew Pearson

Matt will once again be leading up the development squad, the “Damien Fleming Academy”, as our lead development coach.

This is, of course, combined with his role as captain of the third XI.
